A remake of
Alfred Hitchcock
's 1940 thriller
Rebecca
is currently in the works, with
Eastern Promises
' screenwriter Steven Knight set to pen the script.
The original, released in 1940, starred
Laurence Olivier
and
Joan Fontaine
and centers on a young woman who marries a wealthy widower and moves into his mansion, where the memory -- and maybe more -- of his late wife is palpable.
In addition to
David Cronenberg
's 2007 drama
Eastern Promises
, Knight also wrote the script for the 2002 crime thriller
Dirty Pretty Things
and the upcoming
Jason Statham
-
starring
thriller
Hummingbird
, which will mark Knight's directorial debut.
