Ricky Gervais Gets New Show On BBC2

Warwick Davis
Let’s face it. Ricky Gervais knows how to make high quality television. Since giving the world The Office (does it still need to be distinguished as the British version/American version?) and Extras, he has permanently redeemed himself for all follies on the big screen (which aren’t that bad, but they can't touch his television work). Lucky for us, BBC2 is sending him back to work.

Life’s Too Short has been given the order for a six episode season and Gervais and Stephen Merchant (his esteemed writing partner on most projects including The Office and Extras) are writing and directing. The season was ordered after the pilot received favorable praise.

The single-camera show follows the day-to-day life of Warwick Davis, the British little person actor who plays a fictionalized version of himself. While the show is fictional, it follows closely with Davis’ own life and personal anecdotes. Gervais and Merchant make occasional appearances as themselves to further obscure the line of fact and fiction.

“Third in our trilogy of TV sitcoms, Life's Too Short is another naturalist observational comedy, dealing with everyday problems, human foibles and social faux pas... but with a dwarf," said Gervais.

Davis is one of the most well known and respected little person actors in Britain. He can be seen in the Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Leprechaun franchises. He previously worked with Gervais and Merchant in an episode of Extras when he stole the show from guest star Daniel Radcliffe.
