Ridley Scott has a thing for powerful women. From Alien to G.I. Jane, the British director has never shied away from letting his female characters kick some ass. So it’s no wonder that he’s planning a biopic about one of the most bad-ass women from Imperial Britain that didn’t have a crown.
Gertrude Bell was one of the leading political figures in the Middle East during the years leading up to WWI and her actions helped guide the new governments of Jordan and Iraq. She was even known to pick up a camera from time to time as well and also did some digging as an archaeologist. Oh yeah, she also acted as a spy. All that makes for a totally bad-ass story and it's no wonder Scott wants to give Bell the big screen treatment. Though after seeing what Hollywood wants to do with Miss Marple, Scott might not get the character he wants. Fingers crossed.
