'Ringer' Recap: Shut Up and Eat Your Bologna

ringerS1E9: This week’s Ringer episode is especially interesting since it addresses a few plot points that I’ve been unsatisfied with. There are just so many questions that have still gone unanswered, so it was nice for the plot to at least start working toward finding some answers. Bridget decides to make an appointment with Siobhan’s therapist in an attempt to find out what made her sister want to take her own life. Granted, she doesn't really make much headway yet, but this could help her gain some insight into her sister’s complicated life. Plus, I think we’d all like to get down to the bottom of why Siobhan thought it necessary to fake her own death.

Meanwhile, Malcolm becomes increasingly suspicious of Bridget’s new NA sponsor, Charlie, which pretty much guarantees that something bad is going to happen to him – especially since Charlie now has Bridget’s gun. Let’s not forget, when Gemma learned too much about the whole Bridget/Siobhan situation, Charlie made her disappear. Let’s hope Malcolm won’t share the same fate. And speaking of Gemma, she may not be completely out of the picture just yet!

“How do I get rid of a gun?” – Bridget
Ever since the very first episode, we’ve assumed that Bridget knocked out the agent who was protecting her and stole his gun in order to escape. Tonight we found out that wasn’t the case at all. The agent was the one who told her to run away to her sister’s because she wasn’t safe and even offered his gun to her as protection. And not only that – Charlie hired him to do that under Siobhan’s orders. Crazy! I’m assuming Siobhan hired the agent because she wanted her sister to come to her, so she could take over her identity. The question is – why? What is Siobhan’s ultimate goal?

But, Bridget’s been hiding that gun in her closet ever since and decided that she should now get rid of it since it’s the only thing linking her to her old life. So who does she call for help? Charlie, of course, and he’s more than happy to take care of it for her.

"Why are you calling yourself Siobhan Martin?” – Therapist
Malcolm’s been staying at Charlie’s place in an attempt to get clean and things seem to be going pretty well until he starts getting a weird feeling about his mysterious roommate. After discovering Charlie also has another address, he decides to check it out and comes across a padlocked door. Although he was unable to get inside, we find out that Charlie has someone tied up in his basement…a woman with long, red hair…I think we now know what happened to Gemma.

Bridget does a little undercover work of her own by setting up an appointment with Siobhan’s therapist, hoping the visit will give her some answers as to why her sister committed suicide, but she ends up finding out something about herself instead: she’s falling in love with Andrew. This is something I’ve suspected would happen for some time now, but I’m not sure what kind of a future they could have together since their entire relationship is based on a lie. But hey, you never know with this show. At the end of the session, Bridget gets ahold of her sister’s files and discovers that Siobhan was paranoid that someone was after her and apparently found her answers at a church. Detective Bridget goes to the church (which turns into some sort of party spot) and finds Charlie (or should I say John) drinking at the bar. Looks like her sponsor isn’t as saintly as she thought he was…too bad she already gave him her gun.

“I got what I came for.” – Olivia
Andrew’s business partner, Olivia, is becoming more and more frustrated with him. Ever since he and “Siobhan” have gotten closer, he is trying to be a better person in both his personal life and his career. Of course, Olivia finds this moral philosophy to be bad for business and is tired of having to try to keep their company afloat all by herself. But when she pays a visit to Henry, she stumbles upon a picture of Henry and Siobhan and realizes that the two of them were having an affair. Now that she has the leverage she's looking for, what is she going to do with it?

I'm happy to see that the show isn’t forgetting to come back to all the little details to help tie everything together. Going back to how the gun actually came into Bridget’s possession not only proved that Bridget didn’t actually assault anyone, but also that Siobhan has been planning all of this for some time now. Additionally, learning that Gemma isn’t dead also showed us a different side of Siobhan. Although she’s still manipulative and certainly doesn’t have good intentions, she didn’t have her best friend killed, which shows maybe she does have a heart after all. Granted, we’re still seriously lacking in the answers department, but it’s nice to know we’re making some headway.
