HOLLYWOOD - Michelle Rodriguez's fans have started a petition in a bid to prevent her from spending Christmas in jail.
The former Lost actress has been sentenced to 180 days in jail after violating her probation for driving under the influence. She had admitted failing to complete community service after submitting a false document to show she carried out the work on Sept. 25.
But the 29-year-old star's supporters have launched an objection campaign against the sentence.
In a letter addressed to the Los Angeles County Superior Court, the fans wrote, "There is no lesson that Michelle Rodriguez could learn in 180 days that she couldn't learn in 18, or even 8.
"We do not believe that the imprisonment of this woman is a demonstration of justice nor a fair punishment for her crimes. She is a good person. You were not allowed the opportunity to see Mayte Michelle Rodriguez the human, only the name on a legal document and, if anything, the 'celebrity' name. To us, she is not a celebrity. We do not just support her for her few films or her professional career. We support her as a human being who, flaws included, has demonstrated so much kindness to others."
Rodriguez must report to a Los Angeles County jail to begin the sentence by Dec. 24. She must also complete 30 days of road clean-up duty.
