HOLLYWOOD - Film director Robert Rodriguez's dream of remaking Barbarella looks to be over, because he is insisting on casting fiancée Rose McGowan in the lead role.
Universal Studios originally offered $200 million to do a remake of the cult ‘60s sci-fi movie, but now they want to axe the project--and insiders are pinning the blame on casting decisions.
A source tells the New York Observer, "It's sort of embarrassing for everyone involved; no one thinks Rose can carry the movie, but Robert won't listen."
McGowan is best known for the TV series Charmed. Universal is said to be keen for more of a 'heavyweight' actress to take the role.
Nicole Kidman, Halle Berry and Jessica Alba are all said to interested.
