HOLLYWOOD - Comedienne Rosie O'Donnell has leapt to the defence of Brooke Shields, after

she was disgusted by Tom Cruise's comments on the actress and her post-natal

depression.

Shields suffered postpartum depression following the birth of her daughter

Rowan in 2003 and has praised the drug Paxil for helping her to return to a

happier state of mind. Shields has written about her experiences with the

illness in her tell-all Down Came The Rain.

Cruise caused controversy in May and June when he lambasted Shields'

"misguided" drug use and asking, "Where has her career gone?", while claiming

vitamins would have cured her of her depression, on TV shows Access

Hollywood and Today.

On her official blog, O'Donnell says she is unimpressed with Cruise's drug

opinions and his infamous couch-surfing on the Oprah Winfrey show in May.

O'Donnell says, "After watching Tom on O (Oprah) and then everywhere else in

the free world, I think I may need to up my meds.

"Shout out to Brooke--stand tall girl. You saved a lot of women by telling

your truth."
