HOLLYWOOD - Superman Returns star Brandon Routh was working as a bartender at a Hollywood bowling alley right up until he was cast as the new Man Of Steel.
Superman Returns was in development for over 11 years and was rumored to have a number of actors attached at different times including Josh Hartnett, Nicolas Cage and Ashton Kutcher.
But when director Bryan Singer signed on, he insisted that an unknown actor be cast in the iconic role and took months deciding whether or not Routh was right for the part.
The actor remembers, "I spent many days in anguish behind the bar serving drinks."
Routh kept his bartending job at Hollywood's Lucky Strike Lanes until he finally received the offer in writing.
He adds, "It was rough. Especially as celebrities and people came in. I kept thinking about accomplishing great things."
