Roy Scheider Undergoes Treatment for Cancer

Jaws
HOLLYWOOD - Jaws star Roy Scheider is recovering after undergoing hospital treatment to

combat cancer.

Scheider--who starred in a string of classic movies in the 1970s including

The French Connection, Klute and Marathon Man--underwent a bone marrow

transplant to treat multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells, last week.

And the 72-year-old, who ironically played a boss of a powerful company who

refuses to pay for a client's bone marrow transplant in The Rainmaker, is now

relaxing following the treatment.

He tells the New York Daily News, "It went well. They harvested my stem

cells. I was my own donor.

"I won't be bouncing around like I usually do this summer. I'll be weak. I'll

be recovering. But, to all those wishing me well, thank you very much."
