Ryan Seacrest to Replace Matt Lauer on 'Today'?

NBC's Today show is about to get a little more metro, if the Wall Street Journal is to be believed. The Journal's Lauren "Titan" A.E. Shuker reported today that NBC Universal has reached out to Ryan Seacrest to see if he might be interested in replacing Matt Lauer, should the reigning Today co-anchor decide to leave the show next year. The perpetually well-coifed E! host reportedly met with a gaggle of studio execs yesterday to discuss the possibility, though Shuker is quick to caution that the talks are "preliminary and could fall apart at any time," and could very well be little more than a negotiating tactic. Should Seacrest not be available, NBC might be inclined to pursue one of his authorized clones -- the one that hosts Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve is said to be of a particularly high quality.
