SDCC 2011: Assembled 'Avengers' Concept Art Highlights The Hulk

Avengers, Assemble! You’re going to be hearing that lazy reference a lot as more news starts to leak out about the Avengers film, but it seemed especially appropriate for this bit of concept art. Released by Marvel Studios at San Diego Comic-Con, this concept art gives us a sneak peak at the Avengers together as a team, and a first look at the design for Mark Ruffalo’s new Hulk. Much like the prior Hulks, the look that Marvel seems to be going for is big, green and broody. The poster also offers a glimpse at lesser-known heroes Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), who have only appeared in the backgrounds of other Marvel films, and glimpses into the character’s backstories.

Avengers is written and directed by Joss Whedon, and stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, Chris Evans as Captain America, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

While it’s only concept art, this poster highlights the immense wealth of characters, actors, and stories the Avengers has to draw from in the Marvel universe. If only they had the rights to Spider-Man and the X-Men as well. May 4, 2012 cannot come soon enough.
