Sean Bean in Talks to Join 'Snow White'

Game of Thrones star Sean Bean is in final negotiations to join Relativity Media's as-yet-untitled Snow White adaptation, Variety reports. Principal photography for the film is already underway in Montreal, with director Tarsem Singh (Immortals, The Cell) presiding over a cast that includes Lily Collins as Snow White, Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen, and Armie Hammer as Prince Andrew Alcott. Bean, whose recent work includes "getting stabbed in a London bar," is slated to play the King.

The film is being labeled a "dark twist" on the original Brothers Grimm fairytale in which Snow White teams up with seven dwarves to reclaim control of her father's kingdom from her step-mother, who has stolen it. It opens March 16, 2012. A rival adaptation, Snow White and the Huntsman, is currently in pre-production at Universal with a cast that includes Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, and Charlize Theron. Newcomer Rupert Sanders is directing. Huntsman, which I can only presume is also a "dark twist" on the source material (dark and twisty being all the rage these days), is currently on track for a June 1, 2012, release.
