Jerry Seinfeld is coming back to NBC for a reality series!
Tentatively titled The Marriage Ref the show features celebrities, comedians and athletes who judge couples suffering marital dischord, while offering up strategies settle the strife.
Seinfeld and his Columbus 81 Productions are partnering with Oprah Winfrey Show veteran Ellen Rakieten on the project. He will act as an executive producer and creator, but given the show's celebrity-guest format it's likely he'll make appearances in front of the camera.
NBC co-chair Ben Silverman said Seinfeld pitched the show as a sort of companion piece to his classic sitcom which ran on the network for 9 seasons.
While Seinfeld was a bachelor during the Seinfeld run, he is now a family man and has increasingly turned to married life as comedic fodder.
"Some of the greatest comedies in the history of television have been around marriages," Silverman said. "The concept is so universal and accessible, and obviously it works so well when it comes from somebody with a point of view -- and nobody has a stronger point of view on this subject than Seinfeld."
Added Seinfeld: "This is not a therapy show, it's a comedy show. After nine years of marriage, I have discovered that the comedic potential of this subject is quite rich."
Six one-hour episodes have been ordered for a planned fall release.
