"Sesame Street" studies violence
HOLLYWOOD - The creators of Sesame Street have inadvertently discovered that one of children's biggest fears is violence, ABCNEWS.com reports. A study conducted by the Sesame Workshop allowed 233 children to use variable media to describe their hopes and fears. Nearly two-thirds of the children involved in the study depicted anxiety about guns, death and violence, with fears increasing proportionately with age. Among their worries were fears of kidnappings and school shootings, while some showed concern about the environment and pollution. The study came as a surprise to television executives, who were simply trying to get new ideas about educational programs.
