'Slumdog' Dominates BAFTAs

Dev Patel and Freida Pinto star in Fox Searchlight Pictures' 'Slumdog Millionaire'
For those who happened to watch Sunday’s British Academy of Film and Television Awards (aka the BAFTAs), a case of déjà vu might be in store for Oscar night on Feb. 22.

Awards darling Slumdog Millionaire was unsurprisingly the big winner, taking home seven awards including best film, director (Danny Boyle) and adapted screenplay (Simon Beaufoy).

That trifecta is expected to unfold again in two weeks when the Academy Awards are held in Los Angeles.

Elsewhere at the BAFTAs, Mickey Rourke and Kate Winslet won the lead-acting awards for their performances in The Wrestler and The Reader, respectively -- which could also very well be the Oscar outcome.

And the late Heath Ledger continued his bittersweet reign over the supporting-actor category (a shoo-in to posthumously win the Oscar, too), while Penelope Cruz scooped up best supporting actress for Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
