'Star Trek' Sequel Gets a Release Date

ALTIt's taken a really long time, but -- in addition to some potential casting news recently -- we now know when the sequel to J.J. Abrams' 2009 iteration of Star Trek will hit theaters: May 17, 2013.

Production on the as-yet untitled follow-up will reportedly begin Jan. 15, with the coveted pre-Memorial Day opening now penciled in after Roland Emmerich's Singularity was moved by Sony from that date to Nov. 1, 2013 to make room.

It looks, fortunately, like not much will be different from the 2009 blockbuster personnel-wise: J.J. Abrams will be directing (in 3D), co-writing (which he didn't do two years ago) and co-producing, with all major cast members returning.
