No, you did not read that title wrong -- Steve Jobs is being honored with a Grammy as part of the upcoming Grammy Awards of 2012. According to E! News, the Recording Academy show announced earlier today that the late CEO and co-founder of Apple will be honored with one of the organization's Special Merit Awards as a way to acknowledge all of his outstanding, lifetime accomplishments. Additionally, a special ceremony will be held on February 11, 2012, for all of this year's honorees, one day before the actual Grammy Awards airs on CBS.
At first I was kind of confused why Jobs -- who passed away in October at the age of 56 after battling pancreatic cancer -- would qualify to win a Grammy. He didn't sing or compose music (that I know of), so why did the academy decide to give him such a highly coveted honor? But then it dawned on me how much he helped revolutionize the music industry with all of his inventions (i.e. iPods, iPhones, iPads, etc.). Thanks to him, people are now able to receive and enjoy music whenever and wherever they want! If that's not worth an award, then I'm not sure what is. Here's to Steve Jobs!
