HOLLYWOOD - Actor Steve Martin has adapted his third play for the stage. Following his success with Picasso at the Lapin Agile (1993) and WASP and Other Plays (1997), Martin has now penned an updated version of Carl Sternheim's comedy-noir The Underpants for New York's Classic Stage Company, Variety reports. CSC artistic director Edelstein said "Sternheim is absurdly witty, and his work reminded me very much of Steve... I asked him to take a crack at Sternheim." Scheduled for workshop development this summer, Underpants could be ready for CSC's 2001-02 season.
