'Syriana' Filmmakers Win Plagiarism Battle

Syriana Movie Stills
HOLLYWOOD - The makers of George Clooney movie Syriana have triumphed in their legal wrangle against Stephanie Vergniault, after being accused of plagiarism by the French screenwriter.

Vergniault claimed the thriller, written and directed by Stephen Gaghan, was based on her script Oversight, which she wrote between 1997 and 2002.

In her lawsuit against Warner Bros. studios and Clooney's production company, Section Eight, Vergniault was seeking two million euros ($2.55 million) and 35 percent of box office receipts.

Following her loss, Vergniault has now been ordered to pay 3,500 euros ($4,412) in court costs.
