HOLLYWOOD - Even cyborgs from the distant future aren't immune to the rigors of Los Angeles traffic. The titular star of the Terminator movies, Arnold Schwarzenegger, in what was described as a "minor" accident, wrecked his motorcycle over the weekend, landing him in a Los Angeles hospital with several broken ribs.
Naturally, Schwarzenegger "will be back"--he has to be, in order to collect the richest payday in Hollywood history.
Arnie, 54, has signed on to reprise his role as a cyborg baddie from the future for a third Terminator movie, to the tune of $30 million, breaking his own record of $25 million for his role as Batman and Robin's Mr. Freeze.
Titled Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, the film will cost Intermedia more than $160 million to make. Warner Bros. recently won a heated bidding war for the distribution rights, beating out other major Hollywood studios.
Given that T2, the second installment of the trilogy, grossed more than $500 million worldwide, we're willing to bet that Intermedia and Warner Bros. will be telling Arnold to stay off all two-wheeled conveyances for the time being.
Schwarzenegger's spokeswoman Jill Eisenstadt told Reuters that he was "resting comfortably" after the accident and plans to return home Tuesday.
Production on T3 begins in April 2002, in time for a summer 2003 release.
