The All-New 'Wiz'

HOLLYWOOD - If you don't remember "The Wiz," then Fox is going to remind you with "The O.Z." Like "The Wiz" (the Broadway musical and the misfire of a 1978 movie), "The O.Z." will be an urban (read: black) take on "The Wizard of Oz." The TV musical will bow on the network in 2001, today's Hollywood Reporter says.

And while the big-screen version of "The Wiz" featured Motown legends (Diana Ross, Michael Jackson), "The O.Z." will sport hip-hop biggies -- reportedly Queen Latifah (as Glenda, the Good Witch), Busta Rhymes (as the Cowardly Lion) and Ginuwine (as the Scarecrow).

The Reporter says Patti LaBelle will play the Wicked Witch of the West. Whitney Houston apparently had other commitments.
