ABC's efforts of creating lifelong marriages on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette just became a little less credible, as another one of their engaged couples announced they are splitting up. Representatives for The Bachelorette stars Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez confirmed to People that they have "ended their relationship." No other details were provided.
In the August 2010 finale of the sixth season of The Bachelorette, Ali Fedotowsky accepted Roberto Martinez's proposal for marriage and sent Chris Lambton, home. The newly engaged couple flew back to California to start their lives together, but were careful to make it clear to the media they were not going to get married right away. Instead, they told People magazine in October of that same year, "we're waiting a little bit. We really want to make sure we're doing this right... Nothing has changed -- we're just as happy as we were. When we were finished [with the show], we were so excited. We were like, 'Oh, we're going to get married right away.' But if you're rushing because you're in love, why rush? [Just] wait. You're going to get married any way. We're both sort of enjoying life."
Many assumed the couple would tie the knot this year, but then came the news Fedotowsky and Martinez had officially and formally postponed their wedding because Ali needed more time to recover from a knee injury. She told People on August 3rd, 2011, "We had a date set, and that date has now passed. The decision to postpone [the wedding] was very difficult. I definitely shed some tears. But I want to walk down the aisle. I don't want to limp down the aisle." But as recently as a month ago, they pair indicated they still intended to legally become husband and wife. Ali (once again) told People, "We're still engaged; we're still living together. We just don't feel the need to walk down the aisle right now...We didn't meet in the most traditional way. We had a very short courtship and we only knew each other nine weeks before we got engaged. We are still figuring out our lives as individuals." Eesh.
