HOLLYWOOD - British funnyman Ricky Gervais has signed a major deal that will see his hit comedy series The Office remade in Chile.

Chile is the first Latin country to purchase the rights to the sitcom in an agreement, which has confirmed its status as the most successful British TV series ever made.

The original show is screened in over 90 different countries and it has been remade in France, Germany and the U.S., and now the BBC has allowed Chilecorte TV's Canal 13 to follow suit.

Gervais, 46, is delighted that the program has been so well-received around the world and is convinced there is no stopping the show

He says, "We stopped making The Office in 2003. The rest of the world didn't. I won't be happy until I have seen an Inuit doing David Brent's (the British series' main character) dance."
