HOLLYWOOD - Hollywood director Tim Burton's attempts to settle a legal dispute with ex-girlfriend Lisa Marie out of court have failed.
The pair will now meet at Los Angeles Superior Court in the summer, over Marie's claims she was cheated out of assets Burton promised her during their 10-year relationship, which ended in 2001.
The former Calvin Klein model sued Burton in 2006 claiming he promised they would "combine their efforts and earnings and share equally any and all" accumulated property.
She also claimed he promised to financially support her for the rest of her life.
Burton reportedly gave Marie $5 million to sign a contract releasing him from any further claims to his assets. He then countersued her last September seeking a court declaration binding her to the agreement.
Marie appeared in a number of Burton's films including 2001's Planet of the Apes, on which he met his current partner, Helena Bonham Carter. The couple had their second child, daughter Indiana, in December.
