Todd Phillips to Direct Magazine-Article Adaptation?

ALTThe Hangover director Todd Phillips' production company has obtained the rights to an article featured in Rolling Stone magazine -- and he will produce and possibly direct the big-screen adaptation.

Phillips' Green Hat Films has optioned the feature-film rights to "Arms and the Dudes," a hot-button -- and endlessly entertaining -- piece from the magazine's March 31, 2011, issue, which told the stranger-than-fiction story of two young Miami Beach men who made hundreds of millions of dollars in international arms-trading deals ... until they were busted in 2007 on dozens of counts of fraud.

Phillips most recently directed this summer's The Hangover Part II, which has been a massive blockbuster both domestically and internationally, having earned over $500 million worldwide. He currently has no other films lined up -- that is, unless the Hangover threequel rumors prove true.
