HOLLYWOOD - Tom Arnold has branded Tom Cruise "ignorant" for attacking Brooke Shields'decision to take medication to ease postpartum depression.
In May, Cruise--who claims to have helped people fight drug addictions
through his controversial Scientology religion--sparked a war of words when he
criticised Shields for using anti-depressant Paxil, following the birth of her
daughter Rowan.
And during an appearance on chat show The View July 19,
Arnold attacked Cruise's stance on the issue.
Arnold, whose childhood hyperactivity was settled with the help of Ritalin,
says, "I just think he's ignorant. I just think he doesn't know. When people
talk about abortion, it's not my issue, I'm a guy. I don't even wanna hear
about it, I don't wanna discuss it. Or postpartum depression. How is that our
issue?
"I thought that Brooke Shields is very brave, because celebrities, we wanna
look cool, and (admitting) you wanted to kill yourself and maybe your baby is a
very vulnerable thing for her to do. That's like irritable bowel syndrome, or
something. It's not a cool thing.
"I think Tom is little out of touch. I think therapy is good. It's good for
me, me and my wife. But I think (some) people probably are over-medicated...
Vitamins might be good."
Referring to Cruise's much-mocked antics since embarking on a romance with
Katie Holmes, Arnold adds, "I want my wife to get some Tom Cruise vitamins,
'cause boy is he in love! I wanna give her those vitamins so she's like, 'Tom,
Yes! Yes!'"
