Tom Hanks Made Academy Vice President
HOLLYWOOD - Tom Hanks has been named the new vice president of the Academy of MotionPicture Arts and Sciences--the body which awards the Oscars.
Hanks has been nominated for Academy Awards five
times, and was named Best Actor in 1994 and 1995 for his performances in
Philadelphia and Forrest Gump, respectively.
Hanks succeeds previous vice president Sid Ganis, who has been named
president after Frank Pierson's four year term in charge of the prestigious
academy came to an end on Aug. 23.
