Trouble in the House of Eminem

HOLLYWOOD, July 10, 2000 –- Eminem's 25-year-old wife attempted suicide Friday night at the Detroit home she shares with the Grammy-winning rapper, authorities said. Detroit police wouldn't say much, but Interscope Records spokesman Dennis Dennehy told the Detroit Free-Press, "Eminem is obviously concerned about his wife's well-being. … As far as anything else, it's a private matter, which they'll be addressing privately.''

Eminem (real name: Marshall Mathers) wasn't home at the time. Police responded to a 911 call and took Kim Mathers to a local hospital, and she was later released.

There's no word on whether her suicide attempt was related to a recent incident in which Mathers allegedly caught her husband with another woman in a local nightclub or whether she was depressed about one of her husband's songs, in which he raps about killing his wife and throwing her body in a lake.

Eminem is famous for having stormy relationships with his family. He's been sued by his mother, and last year his grandmother told the Detroit News, "He's a bitter boy with sad songs who wants to make fame."
