Reuters reports The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, the second installment of the J.R.R. Tolkien trilogy, won the most awards of the evening, four in all, including best movie. The Peter Jackson film also snagged prizes for best action sequence and best on-screen team for stars Elijah Wood, Sean Astin and the digitally-created Gollum, whose turn as the tortured former bearer of the Ring also earned him the new honor of best virtual performance.

Kirsten Dunst, the heroine in distress in the web-slingin' comic book flick Spider-Man, took home the MTV statue--a golden bucket of popcorn--for best actress, while her scorching kiss with Spidey co-star Tobey Maguire won best on-screen kiss.

Bad-boy rapper Eminem was named best actor in a film, as well as breakthrough performance by an actor, for his turn in 8 Mile as a young punk trying to make it in Detroit's hip-hop scene. The award for breakthrough actress went to Jennifer Garner for her comic book hero role of Elektra in Daredevil.

Daveigh Chase, the scary young lass from The Ring whose mere image on a bootlegged video invokes a guaranteed death warrant for anyone who watches it, won the honors as best villain.

"Oh my gosh, this so rocks," Reuters reports Chase said on stage after grabbing her own golden bucket of popcorn.

The title for best fight sequence went to the little green fellow, master Yoda, for his lightsaber battle with Christopher Lee in Star Wars: Episode II--Attack of the Clones.

Winners were picked from a poll of viewers who watch cable TV network MTV and sister channel MTV2. The awards ceremony, which was hosted by pop singer Justin Timberlake and American Pie star Seann William Scott, will air on June 5. Reuters reports last year's MTV Movie Awards was watched by over 7 million viewers and was MTV's most-viewed movie award show ever among audiences aged 12 to 34.
