Universal Buys 2012 Oscarbait 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy'

Tinker Tailor Soldier SpyAcademy members, take heed! Your film guaranteed-to-be-nominated-for-something-in-2012 has official found a distributor. Universal Pictures just acquired the domestic rights to Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy -- the new film starring fresh Oscar winner Colin Firth as well as Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Mark Strong and Ciaran Hinds, directed by Tomas Alfredson (Let The Right One In) and written by Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon). The story, based on the 1974 novel by John le Carré, follows Oldman as George Smiley, a spy pulled out of retirement to find a Soviet mole in his former organization. And, well, yeah -- to sum up? This film is about the Cold War, stars some pretty big names and is scheduled to release in November or December. In other words, this film will win an Oscar. Or, at least remind us of that one episode of Friends where Gary Oldman played a drunk actor starring in a World War II drama with Joey.
