You can tell the economy's in trouble.
Vanity Fair is scaling back it's legendary Oscar night party.

Graydon Carter has announced that the magazine's annual celeb-fest -- usually held at the now-defunct Mortons -- will be held at the Sunset Tower Hotel on Feb. 22, 2009, and will be much smaller than usual. The guest list will be "scaled back considerably" from 1,200 to 800 invitees.
“We’ll celebrate Hollywood’s big night the way we did when we first threw the party 15 years ago," writes
Carter in
Vanity Fair. "It will be a cozier, more understated event."
