HOLLYWOOD - Troubled actor Isaiah Washington has his post-Grey's Anatomy life all mapped out--he's going to devote more time to his family and charities.
Washington was fired from the medical drama earlier this month in the wake of a homophobic remark about castmate T.R. Knight last October--a comment he repeated at the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year.
But the star is insistent a break from the screen could be a blessing in disguise so he can concentrate on worthwhile causes, including the Gondobay Manga Foundation, which works to improve life in Sierra Leone.
He says, "In the coming months, all I'm working on right now is trying to focus on day-to-day life and what I'm doing with the foundation, what I'm doing with the family."
Next month Washington--whose ancestry has been traced back to Sierra Leone--will attend the African Union Summit in Ghana. He says of his work on the continent, "Once you get awareness of who you are and how you're here, then I believe there's a responsibility that you have. And seeing that I can afford to take part in that, I have to be responsible."
