First-time director Jim Kohlberg's new film The Music That Never Stopped looks like a bit of a tear-jerker. It has all the right stuff: a solid cast featuring Julia Ormond and J.K. Simmons, a powerful storyline involving an unfortunate diagnosis of cancer and, of course, music! But despite all of these ingredients for success, there's just something -- and honestly, I can't quite pinpoint what it is -- that rubs me the wrong way about this film. I get the feeling that despite the standout trailer, the movie could either be very, very good or very, very, very bad. No middle ground. Check it out and decide for yourself.
