Exclusive Interview With Ewan McGregor


Moviegoers hungry for an alternative to the summer’s onslaught of sequels, prequels and reboots would do well to check out Beginners, the semi-autobiographical dramedy from indie writer-director Mike Mills (Thumbsucker). The movie, which is drawing critical raves, centers on the travails of a 38-year-old Los Angeles bachelor (Ewan McGregor) who, shortly after his mother succumbs to cancer, receives the startling news that his 75-year-old father (Christopher Plummer) is gay.

We caught up with McGregor recently to talk about the unique challenges of playing a role based, at least in part, on his own director:
