Weinstein's Go Down For 'Submarine'

Richard AyoadeThe British are coming! The British are coming! And they’re in a submarine! Wait, wasn’t that the Germans?

Either way, The Weinstein Company bought the American distribution rights to the Toronto Film Festival's British darling Submarine. After a fierce bidding war with several other companies (on an ice rink with the gloves off, because that's how disputes are settled in Canada, right?), the Weinstein's won the rights to the feature for a cool $1 million.

The film is the debut from Richard Ayoade who has been making a name for himself across the pond. The Wrap reports Submarine is “tonally similar to Bottle Rocket and Little Miss Sunshine” and revolves around a 15 year old boy trying to manage his parents imploding relationship and his own blossoming feelings for a girl.

Unfortunately it doesn’t sound like there will be any literal submarines in the film and if they are, they won’t be animated and fighting Blue Meanies. Which is the only thing I think of when I hear British and submarines.
