Wright Penn Opens Up About Her On/Off Marriage

Actress Robin Wright Penn insists her "shared history" with Sean Penn keeps their marriage together.

Interviewed before the couple split and reconciled earlier this year for British magazine Psychologies, the star admits her marriage to Penn has been a rocky one at times.

She says, "All marriages have their phases. It's life. We go through it, if we're married long enough. If you're lucky you grow and you work it out."

The article appears in the new issue of the publication.

Asked about reconciling with her husband last year -- after the couple first split -- the actress says, "It (marriage) feels good now. If it didn't I wouldn't still be here."

She adds, "There are a lot of chapters in our book. You have to do the work in your marriage, but it has to be laid on a strong foundation of love... We have that, and shared history deepens that foundation."

And Wright Penn insists her husband is a devoted "family man" -- but he's no domestic god.

She reveals, "Sean is hopeless domestically. I'm the homemaker, and that's fine with me, because I really like that."
