ALTThe Lion King isn't just Disney's number highest-grossing film of all-time (aside from PIXAR's Toy Story 3), it's also the biggest money maker ever to hit Broadway. The musical based on the 1994 film has earned a cumulative gross of $853,846,062 since opening in November 1997, putting it slightly past The Phantom of the Opera, which opened in January 1998 and has a cumulative gross of $853,122,062.

The show's success is even more impressive when you consider how many productions have come and gone during its tenure — 514, to be exact. Now the only five shows that have had longer runs on Broadway are A Chorus Line, Cats, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera and Chicago, and none of those were as successful this many years after they opened.
