Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest expectedly took the top spot for the second weekend in a row, grossing $62.1 million at the North American box office.

With a total take of $258.2, the second Pirates installment has quickly become the year's top-grossing film, rocketing past X-Men: The Last Stand, which has taken in $232 million in eight weeks. "It's really fun when you're riding a comet like this," Chuck Viane, head of distribution for Disney told The Associated Press. "This thing is just unbelievable. It creates its own wake."

The Wayans brothers’ slapstick farce Little Man, opened in second place with $21.7 million, while the comedy You, Me and Dupree, starring Owen Wilson, Matt Dillon and Kate Hudson, debuted at No. 3 with $21.3 million.

The top 12 movies grossed $148.1 million, down 4.82 percent from last year’s draw of $155.6 and down 29.40 percent from last weekend, which took in $209.8 million.

The Top Three films at the box office this time last year were: Warner Bros.’ Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which opened at No. 1 with $56.1 million in 3,770 theaters, averaging $14,901 per theater; New Line’s Wedding Crashers, which debuted in second place with $33.9 million in 2,925 theaters, averaging $11,590 per theaters; and 20th Century Fox’s Fantastic Four, which dropped to third place in its second week with $22.7 million in 3,619 theaters, averaging $2,994 per theaters (Click here to read last year's box office report).
