'Skyfall' Set for Best Bond Debut!

Skyfall, the 23rd film in the hugely successful James Bond franchise is off to a great start earning $30.8 million on Friday in North America (that estimate includes midnight shows of $2.4 million). With the additional $2.2 million from special exclusive preview runs at 463 Imax and plf locations on Thursday, the film has earned $33 million thus far in North America and enjoyed a per-theater average on Friday of 8,787 at 3,505 locations. This sets the film up for the biggest debut weekend in North America for Bond with around $80 million. For comparison 2008's Quantum of Solace earned $27,007,026 on its debut Friday and went on to earn a then franchise best $67.5 million over the weekend of November 14, 2008.

With around $346.8 million already in the international bank vault through last Thursday, Skyfall by the end of the weekend could be flirting with (dare we say?!) a $500 million worldwide gross!

Here is the official word from Sony Pictures: Sony Pictures, MGM and EON Productions had a phenomenal first day of wide release on Skyfall as the 23rd James Bond adventure took in $30.8 million on Friday in North America.
