Disney’s Enchanted took the top spot once again at the North American box office this weekend, grossing $17 million, while the family dramedy This Christmas held onto its second place standing for the second week with $8.4 million.

The weekend's only new wide release, the thriller Awake, starring Hayden Christensen and Jessica Alba, opened in fourth place with $6 million.

Because of record summer revenue, business for the year is up, according to the Associated Press, with Hollywood taking in $8.7 billion domestically so far, a 4.7 percent increase from 2006. Factoring in higher ticket prices, though, actual movie attendance is just a fraction ahead of last year's.

"After the strength of the summer, we expected the fall would follow suit, and it just hasn't done that," Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers told AP. "It's a good crop of films, but the marketplace just has not been able to rise above the levels we were hitting last year at this time."

The Top 12 movies took in a total of $76.5 million for the weekend, down 5.75 percent from last year’s total of $81.2 million and down 49.26 percent from last weekend’s total of $150.6 million.

The Top Three films at the box office this time last year: Warner Bros.’ Happy Feet, which stayed at No. 1 in its third week with $17.5 million in 3,804 theaters, averaging $4,612 per theater; Sony’s Casino Royale, which stayed in second place in its third week with $15.1 million in 3,386 theaters, averaging $4,463 per theater; and Buena Vista’s Deja Vu, which stayed in third place in its second week with $10.9 million in 3,108theaters, averaging $3,522 per theater (Click here to read last year's box office report).
