The violent French film Baise-Moi (Screw Me) has been screened in Britain at a conference on film censorship in Leicester following a decision by the British Board of film Censors to allow it to be shown in the country. Twenty-three other countries have banned the film, which the New York Post recently said showed "actors engaged in sex so graphic that it leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination."

The film is not scheduled for release in the U.K. until early next year. Today's London Times reported that resistance to the release is already building in Britain, with John Beyer, director of Mediawatch-UK calling for local governments to ban it. "I think Baise-Moi is an antisocial film and should be withdrawn," Beyer told the Times.
