Paul McCartney, John Mellencamp, The Who and Macy Gray are among the performers scheduled to participate in a concert to benefit the victims and rescue workers affected by the attacks on the World Trade Center, The Associated Press reports.

"The Concert for New York," scheduled for Oct. 20 at Madison Square Garden, will be broadcast live on VH1 and will be heard on radio stations around the country. AOL also plans to Webcast the event.

Other performers include Bon Jovi, James Taylor, the Goo Goo Dolls, Melissa Ethridge, India.Arie and Hollywood star like Jerry Seinfeld, Jim Carrey, John Cusack and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Viewers and listeners will be able to call in and make donations.

Proceeds from the four-hour concert will go to the Robin Hood Relief Fund, which helps needy families in New York, and the Twin Towers Fund started by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani to benefit rescue workers. Funds will also go to several other relief organizations.

Organizers also are inviting 5,000 members of the New York fire, police and rescue crews, including their families.

McCartney was originally planning his own tribute concert but later agreed to join the larger event.

Tickets for the event will go on sale Sunday, Oct. 7, at noon through Ticketmaster.
