With the Pentagon imposing increased restrictions on news coverage of its operations in Afghanistan (on Monday it agreed to allow an NBC camera crew to provide pool coverage of certain missions, but no reporter will be allowed to accompany it), CNN's Christiane Amanpour has suggested that the networks and cable news channels may wind up bidding for footage from independent filmmakers who have secretly entered Afghanistan. Amanpour told Newsday: "I don't think anything really happens in a vacuum [and] there are probably video cowboys in Afghanistan already. Who knows? Maybe stuff will get smuggled out or sold. Afghanistan is the ultimate bazaar. They can trade AK-47s. Maybe they can sell you a video."
