DiCaprio denies report he bad-mouthed "Gangs"

Oct 16, 2001 | 1:07pm EDT

Leonardo DiCaprio has denied a report that appeared on the MSNBC website last week claiming that he was trying to renegotiate his contract for Martin Scorsese's upcoming Gangs of New York because he was disappointed with the film.

The original item, written by columnist Jeannette Walls, has been revised and now contains a quote from a DiCaprio spokesman saying, "Leonardo DiCaprio says that the experience of working on the film has been the highlight of his career. He has never ever believed in a project more strongly than this one. Neither he nor his representative has ever sought to renegotiate his contract. And whomever (sic) is alleging that statement is lying."
