Diane Sawyer's PrimeTime Thursday interview with Osama bin Laden's sister-in-law on ABC-TV last week materialized after CBS turned down an interview with the woman, the Washington Post reported today (Monday). CBS had reportedly rejected a condition of the interview that it be shown to Carmen bin Laden in the form in which it would be presented and that changes be made in it if necessary. According to the Post, an attorney for Mrs. bin Laden then offered the interview with ABC and was again turned down because of the condition. Her attorney acknowledged the rejections and said that bin Laden had decided to go with ABC because she "felt more comfortable with Diane Sawyer [than with Dan Rather]. ... It's as simple as that."
