Beverly Hills Court Judge Elden Fox gave prosecutors more time to consider whether to bring criminal charges against Ryder, Reuters reports.
Ryder entered the building through the back door and was wearing a black skirt, white blouse and a black sweater. Her case was adjourned to February 11, when Ryder will appear once again before a judge at the Beverly Hills Superior Court.
The Oscar-nominated actress has not been formally charged with a crime since her arrest for alleged shoplifting and drug possession in a posh Beverly Hills store last month.
Ryder was arrested on Dec. 12 at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills after clerks said they saw the actress stuffing clothes and accessories into her bag, ripping the security tags off. Police also found a small amount of pills in her purse without a prescription.
The 30-year-old actress was handcuffed and taken to a police station after her arrest.
Ryder's lawyer, Mark Geragos, claims the arrest has been a big misunderstanding and that she had the prescription for the drugs.
"It will become clear that there was no theft here," he said, "Ms. Ryder had no intent of depriving anybody of property."
