Actor Robert Duvall fractured several ribs Monday while rehearsing for his new Western.

The Oscar-winning actor reportedly fell off a horse and broke several ribs while preparing for Open Range. According to The Associated Press, Duvall, 71, was treated for his injuries and is expected to be ready to ride when shooting for the movie begins in June in Calgary, Canada. He currently is recovering at his Virginia home.

Kevin Costner will direct, produce and star in Open Range. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is described as a saga about the day-to-day challenges facing four men--two of whom will be played by Duvall and Costner--living in the old West.

Duvall recently starred with Denzel Washington in the action drama John Q and has two films coming out this year, including Gods and Generals and Assassination Tango, both of which he wrote and directed.

The five-time Oscar nominee won an Academy Award for his role in the 1982 drama Tender Mercies. His long list of acting credits includes To Kill a Mockingbird, The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, M*A*S*H and The Apostle.
