Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and Hugo will compete with Immortals, The Muppets, Midnight in Paris and Thor to be named Best Fantasy Film at the prizegiving, which recognises achievement in movie genres such as sci-fi and horror.

Filmmaker J.J. Abrams' Super 8 nabbed eight nods and Captain America: The First Avenger scooped seven, while The Adventures of Tintin and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol both picked up six nominations.

Breaking Bad took the lion's share of TV nominations with six, while American Horror Story earned five, and Dexter, Fringe, Game of Thrones, Leverage, The Killing and Torchwood: Miracle Day have four.

The event looks set to be a big night for Scorsese, who will be honoured with the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films' George Pal Memorial Award "for his brilliant ode to the triumphant spirit of early cinema in Hugo".

The 2012 Saturn Awards will be handed out on 20 June (12) in Burbank, California.
