Robert Blake 'Paranoid' About Bakley Being Near Their Child

Jan 21, 2005 | 3:03pm EST

Actor Robert Blake was "totally paranoid" about keeping his daughter away from his wife, his murder trial in Los Angeles heard yesterday.

Prosecution witness Roberto Renzi told the court Blake, 71, tried to give his spouse $250,000 to walk away from his life, but Bakley refused to take the money.

Renzi said, "He was totally obsessed with love for that child. He was totally paranoid about her coming in contact with the child because of her past."

The witness added that Bakley originally thought Marlon Brando's son Christian was the child's father before a DNA test proved Blake was the father.

Renzi said Blake swiftly married Bonny Lee Bakley when he found out she was pregnant with his child and that Bakley only agreed because she was fascinated with celebrity.

He said, "Her game was not about the child, it was about being in that circle, being married to a movie star." Blake stands accused of killing his wife outside Vitello's restaurant in Studio City, Los Angeles, in 2001.

Prosecutors in the Robert Blake murder trial are set to serve up a star witness who claims he knows the actor killed his wife because she told him she dreamed the whole thing in the year before her death. '

Los Angeles lawyer Cary Goldstein insists he's happy to take the stand next week because he regrets not believing former client Bonny Lee Bakley when she first told him she was going to be murdered by her husband.

The famed divorce lawyer says Bakley often confided in him with regard to her murder fears, but Goldstein never took him seriously. He reveals, "Bonny told me that if anything happens to her, if she's murdered, that it's Blake who's responsible. Never has a client ever actually been murdered so I kind of didn't give that warning the respect it deserved."
