The actress has endured a troubled relationship with both of her parents and became a legally emancipated adult at the age of 15.
But since her dad's death she has decided it's time to make amends with her mum.
She says, "(Our relationship) is more functional than it has been. My dad passing definitely made me go, 'You've got to let bygones be bygones'.
"It just made me have a more open mind and an open heart. It matured me."
